Tequila Herradura has set the standard for exceptionally hand-crafted, ultra-premium 100 percent agave tequilas since 1870. To celebrate its 140th Anniversary, Casa Herradura announced today the introduction of new primary packaging.

Tequila Herradura has set the standard for exceptionally hand-crafted, ultra-premium 100 percent agave tequilas since 1870. To celebrate its 140th Anniversary, Casa Herradura announced today the introduction of new primary packaging that celebrates the brand’s traditional, time-honored production process while projecting the sophistication of unyielding elegance.

“To commemorate our 140th Anniversary, we are introducing Tequila Herradura with a new bottle that accentuates our premium tequilas and unifies the brand under one global and streamlined image,” said John Hayes, managing director for Brown-Forman Tequilas. “The design dignifies and honors the extraordinary quality of Tequila Herradura without altering our traditional hand-crafted process and premium ingredients that tequila aficionados will continue to sip and savor.”

The new packaging for Herradura Tequila was conceptualized across all brand expressions to include key design elements featuring a new angular, square cut-glass bottle, which showcases the tequila’s natural essence and improve ultra-premium cues.

“The form of the bottle is elegantly tapered and square shaped with an extended neck that ties to the authenticity of traditional Mexican glass making with the functional benefit of allowing it to be easy to hold and pour,” said Ken Hirst, a renowned global packaging consultant who assisted in the design of the new Herradura package.

To elevate Herradura Tequila’s unwavering quality and brand cache, the front bottle-face features a metal horseshoe inset to establish the horseshoe as the core brand icon and a defining feature on the package since Herradura means horseshoe in Spanish. The bottle closure also was updated with a clean smooth finish to establish a modern image and an embossed ribbon seal to signify authenticity while unifying the line extension.

“A brand with over a century of deeply rooted heritage deserves a presentation befitting of its status and this new simplified look will present Herradura’s world-class tequila in a contemporary, streamlined way while honoring the brand’s rich history,” said Johnny Cardenas, senior art director for Casa Herradura Tequilas.

While the Anejo and Reposado expression names remain the same, Herradura Blanco is now identified as “Silver” in the U.S., and “Plata” in the majority of the world to leverage consumer familiarity.

Herradura’s new packaging will be offered first in the 750ml bottle followed by the 1L. The new packaging is currently available on store shelves and in restaurants and bars in California, Florida and Texas markets, and throughout Mexico. The remainder of the U.S. and rest of the world will follow in the coming weeks and months.

To support the Herradura new bottle launch, an advertising campaign was developed by Draftfcb-Chicago that includes print, out-of-home, point-of-sale and digital properties. A message that communicates, “Never Compromise,” will help convey the brand’s commitment to unsurpassed quality and further differentiate Casa Herradura as an upscale leader in the ultra-premium category.

Tequila Herradura is one of the only hand-harvested, handcrafted and estate bottled tequilas in the world. While the look of Herradura’s tequila has been elevated to an elegant and modern image, the same flavor and recipe of founding father’s Ambrosio Rosales and Aurelio Lopez continues unchanged for 140 years.

For more information on Tequila Herradura’s redesigned packaging, please contact David Page at (502) 774-7701 or Ken Zanet at (212) 219-0321. High-resolution images of the new package are available at www.herradurapressroom.com.

About Casa Herradura

Founded by Ambrosio Rosales and Aurelio Lopez, Casa Herradura is one of the oldest and most respected producers of tequila, which many believe delivers the world’s highest quality, most authentic tequila experience because of the expertise and leadership it has developed since 1870.

Located and produced in the heart of Mexico’s tequila region, in the tiny town of Amatitan, Jalisco, Tequila Herradura is 100 percent blue agave tequila carefully crafted using traditional methods, such as cooking the agave in clay ovens and fermenting naturally with wild yeast. This sophisticated process delivers a rich, smooth and unexpected taste that evokes memories of our agave fields.

Selected “Best Distillery of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2007, Tequila Herradura is all natural and estate bottled. For more information, please visit www.herradura.com.

The company said today (25 August) that its UK distributor, Maxxium UK, has been running a competition with body art and tattoo magazine Skin Deep to design a bottle for the Reposado variant. The competition to create the bottle invited the body art community to come up with a tattoo-inspired design that “conveyed the authenticity” of the brand, Maxxium said.

The winning artist (Andi Hopgood) bagged a feature interview in the August issue of Skin Deep to showcase his tattoo talents as well as £3,000 cash to spend. Twenty runners up also received a bottle of 100% agave HORNITOS tequila to savour.

Although i knew the sugar skulls would be popular i decided to do my own twist on them as Tequila is a celebration in itself and partnering it with the day of the dead celebration seemed fitting…….along with traditional old school tattoo roses which I love. – Andi Hopgood

Hornitos will subsequently launch 500 limited edition bottles exclusively in the UK this autumn. The bottle will be available to pour in selected Tequila bars across the country.

Espolón™, the super-premium tequila that evokes the storied culture of “real Mexico,” is returning to the U.S. market. Skyy Spirits, the U.S.-based wholly owned subsidiary of Gruppo Campari and the definitive marketer and distributor of super-premium and luxury spirits brands in North America, is proud to bring this 100-percent Weber Blue Agave tequila brand north of the border again with a new look, yet with the same award-winning liquid.

Espolón was originally introduced in the United States in 2000, garnering praise from Tequila experts and winning a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition as well as a Platinum Rating by the Beverage Testing Institute. Gruppo Campari, who in 2009 bought the Espolón brand along with the San Nicolas Distillery where it is made, is reintroducing the brand following a three year hiatus in the US.

Inspired by classic nineteenth century artwork and the iconic rooster, a symbol of Mexican national pride, Espolón imparts true stories of life in real Mexico. Handcrafted with estate-owned Weber Blue Agave, these heralded premium tequilas are distilled in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico, and made at the artisan San Nicolas Distillery under the guidance of Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza. Two marques are now available in select US markets, Blanco and Reposado, both represent an outstanding value at a suggested retail price of $24.99 for a 750ml.

Espolón Tequila Blanco ($24.99 750ml)— The color is clear with a platinum cast. On the nose are aromas of delicate, sweet agave, floral notes, tropical fruit and lemon zest with a hint of pepper. In the mouth there is a soft feel, light- to medium-bodied palate with bright agave flavor, and notes of pepper, vanilla bean and grilled pineapple. An elegant, clean finish ends with a hint of spice. 40% ALC. /VOL.

Espolón Tequila Reposado ($24.99 750ml)— The tequila displays a rich, golden-hued color with aromas of spice, caramel and a hint of chocolate. The expressive nose gives way to a bold, round mouth-feel with a medium-dry, full-bodied palate including rich roasted agave, sweet tropical fruit, and intense vanilla and brown spices. The flavor finishes slowly with a sweet, spicy fade creating a hedonistic reposado with añejo-like wood spiciness. 40% ALC. /VOL.

While Espolón’s liquid remains the same, the packaging and look/feel of the brand have been redesigned and repositioned, with a focus on trumpeting life in real Mexico. The new decorative label on each Espolón bottle pays tribute to the Mexican artists who inspired the world with true portrayals of the country’s rich history and complex everyday life. Striking, stark block print artwork features the characters of Guadalupe, Rosarita and the proud rooster, Ramón, reliving Mexico’s rich cultural stories.

The Espolón Blanco label, entitled “Independencia,” illustrates Guadalupe and Rosarita joining Father Miguel Hidalgo’s valiant campaign for Mexican independence from Spain. The Espolón Reposado label tells the story of “recuerdo” (“remembrance”), in which Guadalupe and Rosarita grace the markets of Mexico City, the new metropolis built on the fallen Aztec capital. Here, the couple schemes to infuse elements of Aztec culture into every market to ensure the remembrance of that great society. The labels serve to provide history and offer insight into the rich and fascinating stories of real Mexico.

Artá announces today the Bay Area launch of its new line of small batch ultra premium tequila. Handcrafted and bottled in the heart of Mexico’s traditional tequila-growing region.

Artá announces today the Bay Area launch of its new line of small batch ultra premium tequila. Handcrafted and bottled in the heart of Mexico’s traditional tequila-growing region, Artá tequila comes from 100% single-estate agave, grown by an 11th generation rancher and flawlessly crafted by a third-generation master distiller using only traditional methods. Beyond this commitment to quality, Artá is built on a strong foundation of awareness of, and respect for, the world and those sharing it.

Bay Area local David Fox founded Artá with the goal of growing, aging and bottling the finest tequilas in the world and the philosophy that a company can do well, while doing good. The result is a ‘green’ conscious approach to business and a commitment to giving back to the land and people that make Artá possible

From harvesting to distillation to bottling, Artá is committed to sustainable and earth friendly practices. In fact, after the tequila has been enjoyed, the bottle is completely recyclable. Artá will also donate 1% of profits toward making life better for the environment and the communities it works in and serves. This approach, and resulting actions honor the founders’ personal ties to Mexico and its people.

“We’re proud to bring this unique line of tequila to the Bay Area. Artá shares the best character traits with those who enjoy it most – active, authentic and aware of the world around us,” said David Fox, Founder and CEO. “We think this philosophy coupled with its outstanding quality will have people sipping Artá and enjoying the art of tequila and the art of life.”

Artá’s home, Cerritos Beach, provides much of its inspiration. With one of the best surf breaks in Mexico, Cerritos is a favorite spot for dedicated surfers. Artá‘s triple-distilled Silver honors the ‘Art of the Surf’ with its graphic label and active taste. The inspiration carried through to the bottle design, which includes a wetsuit-inspired rubber sleeve around its neck to allow a better grip whether behind bar or on beach. The vibrant art community of Todos Santos is down the road from Cerritos and inspired Artá’s Reposado – ‘The Art of the Fiesta’ – which celebrates the fun of Cerritos Beach and the liquid’s spirited taste. Artá s Anejo or “Art of the Agave” pays homage to the agave plant, the source of its ultra smooth taste. Artá is inspired by the ‘Art of Life’ that can be found at Cerritos.

The award-winning bottle of the Artá brand reflects the company’s values and respect for its surroundings. The stunning glass bottles are manufactured using recycled glass with a refurbished metal bottle top and a sustainably harvested cork from Portugal. Artá is in the process of securing its organic certification.

By controlling all of the elements throughout the growing, aging and bottling processes, Artá delivers tequila of consistently superior quality. To ensure the highest quality and brand consistency, the company’s own agave plants create the elegant and distinctive style of Artá tequilas. The Artá line of ultra premium tequila is triple-distilled and aged up to two years.

In an ongoing demonstration of its commitment to the 10 generation-strong company and family motto – ancestry, prestige and tradition – Jose Cuervo International, the world's leading Tequila company, today unveils the 2010 edition of Reserva de la Familia.

First Family of Tequila Celebrates Mexican Culture by Commissioning Local Artist to Design Box

This year the limited-edition handcrafted wooden box for the 15th installment to this collection is adorned with the artistic styling of Pablo Vargas Lugo.

Reserva de la Familia is an award-winning Extra Anejo (aged) Tequila made from hand-selected, 100% pure blue agave grown in the Cuervo estate’s richest volcanic soils. Reserva de la Familia, a crown jewel of the Jose Cuervo portfolio, is considered to be a collectable masterpiece by spirit connoisseurs around the world for both its superior taste and uniquely designed packaging. Each year since 1995, the Cuervo family has selected a renowned Mexican artist to paint the new handcrafted wooden box for its ultra-premium vintage Tequila – part of its continuing support for promising Mexican artists and local culture.

This year’s edition features the artistry of Pablo Vargas Lugo, whose work has been featured in more than a hundred exhibitions around the world. Vargas Lugo’s art is not limited to any specific style, technique or theme, but rather he creates works characterized by an apparent simplicity of form, which hides a web of visual and conceptual operations. His works achieve both graphic and three-dimensional qualities by combining industrial and handmade processes. Through this technique, he is able to mix together references and shapes from different sources and times.

“The craftsmanship in the development of the Reserva de la Familia liquid and packaging is a true labor of love,” said Juan Domingo Beckmann, Executive Director of Casa Cuervo and the 10th generation of Jose Cuervo descendents. “It is our privilege to share the spirit of Mexican culture, and the artists that contribute to it, with the world through these distinctive and powerful forms of expression.”

In addition to winning several awards and a double gold medal from the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Reserva de la Familia is recognized by industry experts as one of the world’s finest spirits. Only a limited number of Reserva de la Familia bottles are produced each year, which makes this prized sipping Tequila a much-desired spirit.

This exclusive Tequila is part of a private family tradition dating back to 1795, when the Jose Cuervo family would descend into their private cellar to share the finest Tequila reserves with a select group of family and friends. In 1995, to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of the Cuervo brand, the family decided to share Reserva de la Familia with the rest of the world, and began issuing limited-edition bottles.

Aged in new French and American charred oak barrels, Reserva de la Familia has a full, mellow taste that combines floral, agave, vanilla, nut and Cognac-like flavors and is typically sipped in a brandy snifter either straight or on the rocks. Each bottle is carefully assembled by hand, numbered and dated, hand-dipped in wax and then placed in the handcrafted wooden box. The 2008 Reserva de la Familia is expected to be available in most U.S. states in March for approximately $100 per 750ml bottle (price varies per market).

When enjoying Reserva de la Familia or any other product in the Jose Cuervo portfolio, please do so responsibly.

Proximo Spirits, Inc. and 1800® Tequila are thrilled to announce today the release of the second annual collection of limited-edition Essential Artists bottles. Introducing 12 new bottles designed by up-and-coming artists from New York to Hawaii, the 1800 Tequila Essential Artists series celebrates a dynamic range of original artwork on a unique and unexpected medium – bottles of 100% Agave Silver Tequila! Showcasing eleven designs gathered from over 15,000 online submissions, selected by 1800 Tequila, and one special edition “celebrity artist” bottle, this new line is a vibrant example of the undiscovered, yet soon-to-be-recognized talent residing across the country.

The winning bottle by Steven Wilson

The first installation of the series proved to be a compelling initiative, attracting attention from a wide-range of both world-renowned and unknown artists. This year, in addition to the eclectic variety of 11 user-generated designs, 1800 Tequila is excited to feature a special-edition bottle by Studio Number One, a group of rising star designers whose work is now being recognized as ‘essential’ in the art world.

Founded in 2003 by artist Shepard Fairey (who gained global notoriety this year for his Obama “Hope” design), Studio Number One has built a reputation as one of today’s most influential creative agencies in the country. Describing themselves as a “firm where art and design bridge the gap between culture and enterprise,” Studio Number One reflects the mission of the 1800 Tequila Essential Artists series.

“It’s a pleasure to be involved with something that puts art in more people’s hands, and to work with a brand like 1800 Tequila that supports and promotes artists,” said Amanda Fairey, Chief Operating Officer for Studio Number One.

“We wanted to create something that’s as much fun to enjoy on the shelf as it is off the shelf. It’s a design that captures the wild side of tequila, but tames it with a dose of humor and a sense of adventure,” added Florencio Zavala, Associate Creative Director for Studio Number One.

In addition to Studio Number One, eleven artists nationwide contributed work to create the series of 12 bottles. These artists include StevOramA (Honolulu, HI), the $10,000 Grand Prize Winner whose design has been given a starring role in the series, as well as Ian McGillivray (Brooklyn, NY), Nickelyn Reames (Manteca, CA), danyol (San Francisco, CA), Leyland “Lee” DeVito (Detroit, MI), Danielle Salinas (Bloomfield, NJ), Chad Shore (Atlanta, GA), Mark Sweeney (San Francisco, CA), Branden Tintiangco (San Diego, CA), Chuck Trunks (Los Angeles, CA), and Michelle Villasenor (Atlanta, GA).

“We’re excited to offer another round of Essential Artists bottles, as we received an overwhelmingly positive response to the first campaign,” said Elwyn Gladstone, VP of Marketing for Proximo. “Emerging artists can struggle for years before seeing their work recognized on a national scale, but the creative genius behind the submissions and the incredible demand from consumers has allowed us to expand this program and feature 11 more artists, on our way to showcasing 1,800 inspired submissions.”

Only a limited number of bottles have been produced, making for an attractive collector’s item and lively addition to any bar. To find the bottles, which retail for $24.99 each, consumers can enter their zip codes into the “Liquor Locator” on 1800Tequila.com to find the series in their area. In hopes of encouraging other artists to make their dreams a reality, 1800 Tequila plans to re-launch the contest at the end of this year, inviting artists to submit their own bottle designs for a chance at inclusion in the next series.

The #1 selling tequila in Mexico, Tequila el Jimador, reunites the family of its expressions under one package. Starting in October, Tequila el Jimador Añejo will be available in a new package that aligns its look with its Blanco and Reposado packages.

The #1 selling tequila in Mexico, Tequila el Jimador, reunites the family of its expressions under one package. Starting in October, Tequila el Jimador Añejo will be available in a new package that aligns its look with its Blanco and Reposado packages.

The new Añejo package first will be available in California and Texas, and roll out to the remainder of the U.S. by year’s end. The new look will feature the same tall, angular bottle as the other expressions and identical iconography of the Jimador on the label to pay tribute to the proud men that harvest the agave plants used to make tequila. The biggest difference on the Añejo package will be a silver background on the label which will radiate the quality of the 12-month aged 100% agave tequila inside.

“From a branding perspective, it is important for the Tequila el Jimador Añejo package to look similar to the other expressions to align it with the brand in consumers’ minds,” said Mark Bacon, vice president for Tequilas in the North America. “el Jimador is quickly becoming the tequila of choice for U.S. consumers looking for a high quality, authentic tequila at an accessible price so we wanted to ensure a consistent look and feel across expressions. Consumers can rest assured the only change was the bottle.”

To support the new el Jimador Añejo package, “the 100% Agave, 100% Real” campaign created by AOR Draftfcb Chicago, in conjunction with the Draftfcb Mexico City, will continue to run in various markets. The campaign delivers the primary brand message: “In a world where everyone associates tequila with celebration, el Jimador is the most authentic tequila celebration.” This authenticity is brought to life through a visual of a Mexican wood carving (created by an artist, Claudio Limon, in Guadalajara, the region of Mexico where el Jimador is made). The wood carving illustrates the brand story and is a tapestry of icons and symbols that relate to el Jimador’s history, production process and tequila celebration. The bilingual campaign will include television, print, out-of-home, POS and interactive.

Tequila el Jimador is produced by Casa Herradura, which was named “2007 Best Distiller of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast magazine. Since 2000, Tequila el Jimador has received numerous accolades from industry insiders, including the Adams Beverage Media Growth Brand Award in the Fast Track Category for 2005 and 2006.

Tequila Herradura, one of the oldest and most respected 100 percent blue agave tequila brands since 1870, announced today the introduction of its new primary and secondary packaging developed to highlight the brand’s ultra-premium, hand-crafted authenticity.

Tequila Herradura Leverages 140 Years of Tradition and Authenticity to Redesign Packaging

Tequila Herradura, one of the oldest and most respected 100 percent blue agave tequila brands since 1870, announced today the introduction of its new primary and secondary packaging developed to highlight the brand’s ultra-premium, hand-crafted authenticity. The revamped Blanco, Reposado and Añejo packaging will be seen on U.S. store shelves and in restaurants and bars this summer.

“For the past 140 years, Casa Herradura has been at the forefront of the tequila industry and has been recognized for its innovations with 16 gold medals in taste and quality. In our commitment to Herradura’s place in the market as seriously great tequila, the new packaging reflects the confident and refined personality of the brand and our consumers, whose appreciation of quality spirits separate them from the casual tequila drinker,” said John Hayes, brand director for Casa Herradura tequilas. “By embedding images from our heritage into the new design, we are extending an invitation for our consumers to join us in celebrating Herradura’s rich history and tradition.”

Designed by the Brown-Forman Design Group in conjunction with Duffy & Partners, a brand design company, the new Tequila Herradura packaging incorporates key elements from the brand’s story. Prominently placed on the brighter-hued front label is a larger, more realistic horseshoe, herradura in Spanish, encasing the Casa Herradura crest. Imagery from the Hacienda located in the heart of Mexico’s tequila region is also displayed in the front and back of the square bottles, a reference to the all-natural, hand-crafted and estate-bottled production process followed to create the brand’s various expressions. In addition to the updated labels, the new all-black closures of the bottles and colored ribbons that differentiate the Blanco, Reposado and Añejo expressions help unify the line extension.

The new secondary packaging and shipper cases perfectly align with the bottle designs, utilizing the same bold colors, images from the Hacienda and super-sized horseshoe. On the single-bottle boxes, the black herradura is wrapped around its corner; when positioned correctly next to another box, a complete horseshoe is displayed, reinforcing the brand presence in off-premise accounts.

A national advertising campaign developed by Draftfcb-Chicago, which includes print, out-of-home, point-of-sale and online elements, will support the introduction of the new packaging. Playing off of the lucky charm connotation of the horseshoe, the ads feature the tag line “Good Fortune Awaits,” aiming to establish a conversation with those who rely more on tradition and perseverance than on luck to reach their potential.

Though the look of the iconic square bottles has evolved, the ultra-premium taste and aroma of Herradura will continue to be produced according to the standards set by the distillery’s founders, Ambrosio Rosales and Aurelio López, in the 1800s, including the use of clay ovens and naturally-occurring yeast.

About Casa Herradura

Founded by Ambrosio Rosales and Aurelio Lopez, Casa Herradura is one of the oldest and most respected producers of tequila. Many believe Casa Herradura delivers the world’s highest quality, most authentic tequila experience because of the expertise and leadership it has developed since 1870.

Located and produced in the heart of Mexico’s tequila region, in the tiny town of Amatitán, Jalisco, Tequila Herradura is 100 percent blue agave tequila carefully crafted using traditional methods, such as cooking the agave in clay ovens and fermenting naturally with wild yeast. This sophisticated process delivers a rich, smooth and unexpected taste that evokes memories of our agave fields.

Selected “Best Distillery of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast magazine in 2007, Tequila Herradura is all natural and estate bottled.
Yes times have changed and the TequilaTown is embracing the social networking revolution by starting a blog. I know we're late...but nothing new there.

For quite some time I’ve been staring at the old version of the TequilaTown and thinking to myself that it should be more than it currently was. Ultimately the old site served it’s purpose as a showpiece for my portfolio and got me out of science and into the world of web design. For that I am thankful.

With the increase in popularity of social networking it seemed that the next step would be to create a blog. Ideally the site should progress to a point that it would be easier for others to pitch in and add content rather than relying on me to do it all the time. I looked at both Joomla and Drupal to see if they would be useful but decided that the features that they offered where much more than was really required. WordPress seemed the logical choice. I’m aware that it’s mostly intended as a blogging platform, which I hope to use, but it does have it’s uses as a CMS.

Let’s see how it goes….welcome to TequilaTown v6
